The Merits and Demerits of Using a Men’s Jewelry Box in Leather
These days accessory boxes for men are becoming a great fashion statement. A men’s jewelry box helps him to organize his things and keep it safe, and a modern man will feel incomplete without it. Several materials are used for making jewelry boxes for men.
Amongst these, leather is quite popular but is not as durable as wood. Leather jewelry boxes, of long, long ago, could not be finished properly due to a dearth of proper tanning techniques. With major strides in tanning technology, leather boxes look so good!
Both authentic and synthetic types of leather are used in the manufacture of valet boxes. The vegetable tanned leather, chrome tanned leather, alum tanned leather and aldehyde leather are the common types used. They could also be used for other purposes like making shoes, bags, etc.
The prices of the jewelry box will differ depending upon the type of leather used and the amount of leather tanning involved in getting the finished product. One of the expensive types of leather is chamois leather which is brain tanned and very soft. Brain tanning is where animal brain is used to soften leather.
As the leather is very soft and pliable, leather goods like pouches and jackets for men can be easily crafted. It can be easily compressed as the leather is so soft. It is nice to own leather jewelry boxes, pouches,or cases.
Leather has such a nice glossy finish that it catches the eye. As long as you take care of your leather jewelry box it will last otherwise the leather will be spoiled. Always remember to polish your box well and allow it to dry in the sun before the winter sets in.
If you give it a nice shine with a brush your box would last through the winter without a problem. If this precautionary step is not taken then you will find cracks on the leather leaving it crumpled and ready to tear. The softer the leather is the more careful you should be. Bags made of tougher leather need less polishing and care.
A great drawback with leather boxes is that they can be easily torn, so you need to keep an eye out for sharp objects. There is no way of restoring a leather pouch if it is torn other than patching it up, which will look ugly if not done properly.
The jewelry boxes made of genuine leather are highly priced, so you might not be able to afford one. If that is the case, then opt for an accessory box made of synthetic leather. The durability, however, will not be the same as the pure leather box.
An authentic leather jewelry box is an ideal choice if you can afford one, but make sure to take good care of it so it lasts you a life time.
